Intensive Care Unit
Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides continuous 24 hour monitoring of patients with potentially life-threatening illnesses. Care is provided by specially trained nursing and medical staff who maintain a close relationship with each patient.
Your family Doctor will be notified at the time of your relative's admission and will resume the patient's care once he or she is transferred from ICU to the general ward.
Guidelines while visiting the Intensive Care Unit:
- Family members and those persons designated by the patient are permitted to visit.
- Depending on the patient's condition and after consultation with the Nurse, children may visit for short periods.
- Only 2 visitors are allowed at the bedside at any time.
- Every effort will be made to encourage unlimited visiting.
- Visitation may be denied or limited depending on the patient's condition and at the discretion of the Nurse.
- Please check with the Nurse via the phone in the waiting room before coming into ICU.
- Visitors will be given a visitor's pass authorizing open visiting for the duration of the patient's stay in ICU.
- If you are concerned about your coat or other belongings, please keep them with you all the time.
- We suggest that the family designate a spokesperson who could convey information about the patient to other members of the family.
- The immediate family/designate may phone the Intensive Care Unit at any time at 661-7153.
